Paul Hoffman CPA (inactive), CGMA began his career with the San Francisco office of Laventhol & Horwath, and later Moss Adams, concentrating primarily in audit and tax. The wine industry beckoned, and Paul headed to the Napa/Sonoma wine country over 25 years ago, working in senior financial management positions for Rutherford Hill, The Hess Collection, and Jackson Family Wines.
Paul is a Santa Clara University graduate with a BSC in accounting, and is a member of the AICPA and CalCPA Society. Paul enjoys single malt scotch, road cycling, and being the keyboardist for two Bay Area bands, The Silverado Pickups and The Floorshakers.
Jon Lawson, MBA, CPA, started his career in Washington, DC, with Deloitte, focusing first on audit and later forensic investigations. After finance roles at CPG and hotel/restaurant companies, Jon shifted to the wine industry as Controller at Copain Wines. He's since held finance positions at Diageo, supporting the company's sales force, and Constellation Brands, first as Director of Pricing for Wines & Spirits, then as Director of Commercial Finance, supporting all national marketing efforts, including DTC.
Jon earned his undergraduate degree at Princeton University and was a member of a national championship rowing team. He earned his MBA at UC Berkeley where he first discovered wine. Jon lives in San Rafael with his wife, two young sons, and Welsh Corgi. He enjoys rowing, road cycling and making dessert pies.
Janel Sizelove, CPA has worked in the wine industry for 15 years as controller of several highly successful Napa wineries. Prior to that she served as Controller for insurance and industrial equipment distribution businesses. Janel began her career with Deloitte in their LA, Chicago and Milwaukee offices, working in both audit and tax. Her financial expertise includes design and setup of monthly processes, accounting systems, human resources, and compliance.
Janel enjoys gardening, spending time with her family, and taking long walks.
Wendy Messman worked in the New York offices of Arthur Andersen, and later Ernst & Young, where she initially worked on audit and assurance services, later concentrating on advising on M&A transactions. Wendy then spent ten years working for advisory firms and private equity funds in New York, Tokyo, Los Angeles and Amsterdam, focusing on financial due diligence, transaction negotiations, add-ons to existing portfolio companies, refinancing, and monitoring the ongoing operating performance of investments.
As a native Californian, wine lover, winemaker and certified sommelier, Wendy decided it was time to return to her roots and apply her talents and experience to the financial side of the wine industry. Wendy has provided interim CFO services and strategic financial guidance to several wineries and sales organizations in Napa and Sonoma counties. Wendy attributes her passion for the wine industry to family day trips to the Napa Wine Country in her formative years, and later her extended years living and working in Dijon, France.
Michelle Hoffman began her career with EF Foundation in Santa Barbara, then Boston. After several years in Marketing and Administration with Buena Vista Winery in Sonoma, Michelle focused her energies on raising three children into self-sufficient young adults.
Today Michelle designs internal systems and provides accounting services to several small businesses in the Napa Valley, including wineries, floral designers, attorneys, and a historical building consultant. She recently joined the California Political Treasurers Association (CPTA) as well.
Michelle is a UC Santa Barbara graduate. When not working with clients, she is involved in local community activities and can be seen running and cycling the roads of Napa.
